استضافت مدينة العقبة، وللعام الثاني على التوالي، حملة تنظيف شاطئ العقبة 2026 تحت شعار “الموجة مستمرة”، في فعالية بيئية ومجتمعية جمعت ممثلين عن الجهات الحكومية الأردنية والاتحاد الأوروبي والمنظمات الدولية، إلى جانب الطلبة والمتطوعين وأفراد المجتمع المحلي، بهدف تعزيز الوعي البيئي وتشجيع المشاركة المجتمعية في الحفاظ على البيئة البحرية في خليج العقبة.
وجاءت الحملة بتنظيم من أوكسفام في الأردن ضمن مشروع “تقديم خدمات إدارة النفايات الصلبة في مخيم الزعتري ومخيم الأزرق والمجتمعات المضيفة المحيطة”، الممول من الاتحاد الأوروبي، وبمشاركة برنامج التعاون الإقليمي الأوروبي لحوض المتوسط (Interreg NEXT MED)، وذلك احتفالًا بيوم التعاون الإقليمي (Interreg Cooperation Day)
ونُفذت الحملة بالتعاون مع سلطة منطقة العقبة الاقتصادية الخاصة، ومحمية العقبة البحرية، ومديرية التربية والتعليم لمحافظة العقبة، وبرنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي في الأردن (UNDP).
وقال ممثل السيّد باولو زينجالي، مدير التعاون في الاتحاد الأوروبي :
نفخر كثيرًا بالعمل الذي أنجزناه بالشراكة مع الحكومة والسلطات المحلية وشركائنا، ومن بينهم أوكسفام، والتعاون الإقليمي لشرق المتوسط ، وسلطة منطقة العقبة الاقتصادية الخاصة، وبرنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي، من أجل حماية البيئة البحرية في العقبة والمناطق المحيطة بها. ومن خلال هذا المشروع، نعمل على إرساء رابط قوي وملموس بين إدارة النفايات والاقتصاد الدائري.
وأكد الدكتور نضال العوران، مفوض شؤون البيئة والسلامة العامة في سلطة منطقة العقبة الاقتصادية الخاصة:
نعمل على بناء شراكات طويلة الأمد مع المنظمات الدولية والمؤسسات التنموية، ومن بينها منظمة «أوكسفام». وفي إطار هذه الشراكة، نعمل على التخطيط وتطوير المقترحات للفترة المقبلة، مع التركيز على الاستفادة من الخبرات في مجال إدارة النفايات الصلبة، باعتباره أحد المحاور الرئيسية للعمل. كما تأتي هذه الحملات في إطار الحملة الوطنية للحد من ظاهرة الرمي العشوائي للنفايات وتعزيز الممارسات البيئية السليمة.
وقال السيد ديمتري ميدليف، مدير منظمة أوكسفام في الأردن:
“تتطلب حماية البيئة البحرية في العقبة استمرارية في العمل، وشراكات قوية، ومشاركة فاعلة من المجتمع. ومن خلال حملة «الموجة مستمرة»، نعمل على تحويل الوعي البيئي إلى عمل ملموس، وجمع الشركاء والمجتمعات لتعزيز الممارسات الأكثر مسؤولية في إدارة النفايات. وتفخر أوكسفام بالمساهمة في هذه الجهود المشتركة ودعم بيئة بحرية أكثر صحة للأجيال القادمة.”
وأشار الدكتور عصمت كرادشة، منسق مكتب التعاون الإقليمي لشرق المتوسط في برنامج Interreg NEXT MED، إلى:
يعمل برنامج Interreg NEXT MED، من خلال التعاون عبر الحدود، على تهيئة الظروف اللازمة لتسريع التنمية المستدامة وتعزيز قدرة مجتمعاتنا على مواجهة التحديات البيئية المشتركة والحفاظ على مواردنا الطبيعية للأجيال القادمة. ويدعم البرنامج حالياً 59 مشروعاً بقيمة 120 مليون يورو، تجمع نحو 500 منظمة من جامعات ومراكز بحثية ومنظمات غير حكومية وشركات وإدارات عامة، تعمل معاً على تطوير حلول مبتكرة يمكن اختبارها وتبادلها وتوسيع نطاقها في مختلف أنحاء المنطقة. ومن هنا تكتسب هذه الحملة في العقبة وعلى شواطئ البحر الأحمر أهمية خاصة، إذ تترجم هذا النهج إلى عمل محلي ملموس يجمع المؤسسات والمجتمع والشباب في مواجهة النفايات البحرية وتعزيز الاستخدام المستدام للموارد، ويتيح في الوقت ذاته نقل الخبرات والحلول بين مجتمعات البحر الأحمر والبحر الأبيض المتوسط بما يعزز الأثر الإقليمي للتعاون
“مشاركة برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي في حملة تنظيف شاطئ العقبة تعكس التزامنا بتحويل رؤية الاقتصاد الدائري إلى واقع عملي. من خلال مبادئ 9Rs وبناء مركز الاقتصاد الدائري الإبداعي بتمويل من الاتحاد الأوروبي، لا نركز فقط على تنظيف شاطئنا، بل على بناء نموذج اقتصادي مستدام يوفر فرص عمل خضراء ويحمي موارد العقبة الطبيعية الفريدة.”

وتضمنت فعاليات اليوم جلسة توعوية قدمها برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي في الأردن (UNDP)، تناولت التلوث البلاستيكي وأثر أعقاب السجائر على البيئة، كما شملت عرض مقاطع مصورة توثق حملات سابقة لتنظيف قاع البحر، إلى جانب تقديم نبذة حول آلية تنفيذ هذه الحملات والجهود المبذولة للتعامل مع النفايات البحرية، وذلك من خلال مبادرة الفريق الأزرق (Blue Team)
كما شملت الحملة زراعة 30 شجرة وتوزيع أدوات زراعيّة، وتركيب 12 حاوية للنفايات في المواقع المستهدفة، إلى جانب نشاط “أرسم فكرة مشروعك” الذي أتاح للمشاركين طرح أفكار وحلول مبتكرة تسهم في الحد من أثر أعقاب السجائر على البيئة.
ومن خلال الجمع بين التوعية، العمل التطوعي، تنظيف الشاطئ، جوف البحر، زراعة الأشجار، طرح أفكار لحلول بيئية، أتاحت الحملة للمشاركين فرصة الإسهام بصورة مباشرة في حماية البيئة البحرية وتعزيز الممارسات المسؤولة تجاه الموارد الطبيعية في العقبة.
ويعكس شعار “الموجة مستمرة” رسالة الحملة بأن حماية البيئة لا تقتصر على فعالية واحدة، وإنما تتطلب استمرارية في العمل والمشاركة، وتحويل الوعي البيئي إلى ممارسات يومية تسهم في الحفاظ على البيئة البحرية للأجيال القادمة.
كما نثني على الدور الذي قام به كل من المدارس والطلبة المشاركين، ومؤسسات المجتمع المدني والجمعيات المحلية، وأفراد المجتمع المحلي والمتطوعين، وما أبدوه من تفاعل ومساهمة فاعلة في إنجاح أنشطة الحملة، إلى جانب الدور الذي قامت به القوة البحرية والزوارق الملكية ومديرية دفاع مدني العقبة من خلال فرق الغوص التابعة لها، وما قدمته من دعم ومشاركة في تنفيذ الأنشطة البحرية وتنظيمها، بما أسهم في سير الفعاليات بصورة آمنة ومنظمة.

Aqaba Beach Clean-up 2026: “The Wave Continues” to Protect the Marine Environment
Aqaba, Jordan – 29 September 2026
For the second consecutive year, the city of Aqaba hosted the Aqaba Beach Clean-up 2026 campaign under the slogan “The Wave Continues”, bringing together representatives of Jordanian government institutions, the European Union, and international organisations, alongside students, volunteers, and members of the local community. The initiative aimed to raise environmental awareness and encourage community engagement in protecting the marine environment of the Gulf of Aqaba.
The campaign was organised by Oxfam in Jordan as part of the “Provision of Solid Waste Management Services in Za’atari Refugee Camp, Azraq Refugee Camp, and Surrounding Host Communities” project, funded by the European Union, with the participation of the European Union’s Interreg NEXT MED Programme, as part of the celebration of Interreg Cooperation Day.
The campaign was implemented in cooperation with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Aqaba Marine Reserve, Directorate of Education of Aqaba Governorate, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Jordan.
Paolo Zangali, Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Jordan, said:
“We are very proud of the work we’ve done together with the government, local authorities, and partners like Oxfam, Interreg, Aseza and UNDP to protect the marine environment in Aqaba and beyond. Through this project, we are establishing a strong and tangible link between waste management and circular economy.
Dr. Nidal Al-Ouran, Commissioner for Environment and Public Safety at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, said:
“We are working to build long-term partnerships with international organisations and development institutions, including Oxfam. Within the framework of this partnership, we are planning and developing proposals for the coming period, with a particular focus on drawing on expertise in solid waste management as one of the key areas of our work. These campaigns also form part of the national campaign to reduce littering and promote sound environmental practices.”
Dmitry Medlev, Country Director of Oxfam in Jordan, said:
“Protecting Aqaba’s marine environment requires sustained action, strong partnerships, and meaningful community participation. Through ‘The Wave Continues’ campaign, we are turning environmental awareness into tangible action and bringing partners and communities together to promote more responsible approaches to waste management. Oxfam is proud to contribute to these collective efforts and to support a healthier marine environment for generations to come.”
Dr. Esmat Karadsheh, Coordinator of the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Cooperation Office at Interreg NEXT MED, said:
“Through cross-border cooperation, the Interreg NEXT MED Programme works to create the conditions needed to accelerate sustainable development, strengthen the ability of our communities to address shared environmental challenges, and safeguard our natural resources for future generations. The programme currently supports 59 projects worth €120 million, bringing together nearly 500 organisations, including universities, research centres, non-governmental organisations, businesses, and public authorities. Together, they are developing innovative solutions that can be tested, shared, and scaled across the region. Against this backdrop, the campaign in Aqaba and along the Red Sea coast is particularly significant, as it translates this approach into tangible local action, bringing institutions, communities, and young people together to address marine litter and promote the sustainable use of resources. At the same time, it creates opportunities to share knowledge and solutions between Red Sea and Mediterranean communities, strengthening the regional impact of cooperation.”
Ms. Randa Aboul-Hosn, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in Jordan, said:
“UNDP’s participation in the Aqaba Beach Clean-up reflects our commitment to turning the vision of a circular economy into practical action. Through the 9Rs principles and the establishment of the Creative Circular Economy Hub, funded by the European Union, our focus extends beyond cleaning our beaches. We are working to build a sustainable economic model that creates green jobs while protecting Aqaba’s unique natural resources.”
The day’s activities included an awareness session delivered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Jordan, focusing on plastic pollution and the environmental impact of cigarette butts. The session also featured video footage documenting previous underwater clean-up campaigns, as well as an overview of how such campaigns are implemented and the efforts undertaken to address marine litter through the Blue Team initiative.
The campaign also included the planting of 30 trees and the distribution of gardening tools, as well as the installation of 12 waste bins at targeted locations. Participants also took part in the “Draw Your Project Idea” activity, which provided an opportunity to propose creative ideas and innovative solutions to help reduce the environmental impact of cigarette butts.
By bringing together awareness-raising, volunteer action, beach and underwater clean-up activities, tree planting, and the development of ideas for environmental solutions, the campaign provided participants with a direct opportunity to contribute to protecting the marine environment and promoting responsible practices towards Aqaba’s natural resources.
The slogan “The Wave Continues” conveys the campaign’s core message: protecting the environment cannot be limited to a single event. It requires sustained action and continued participation, alongside turning environmental awareness into everyday practices that contribute to safeguarding the marine environment for future generations.
We also extend our appreciation to the participating schools and students, civil society organisations and local associations, members of the local community, and volunteers for their engagement and active contribution to the success of the campaign’s activities. We further recognise the important support provided by the Naval Force, the Royal Boats, and the Aqaba Civil Defence Directorate, including their diving teams, for their support and participation in implementing and coordinating the marine activities, contributing to the safe and well-organised delivery of the event.
